Images recently leaked online supposedly show a new prototype of the HTC M8, the next generation of the critically well-received HTC One flagship smartphone. While there are a few different variations in the leaked pictures, the design shows minimal changes from the first-generation HTC One.
Pictures Show Sleek, Minimalist Design
Rumors have been circulating for some time about the new iteration of HTC’s flagship One smartphone, and the murmurs ramped up this week as a number of possible variations of the phone’s new look surfaced online. While SlashGear advises readers to take the photos with “more than just the normal dosage of salt,” the site nevertheless speculates that the images do represent a potential version of the new HTC One.
The most noticeable feature is the bezel-free design, with the 5-inch screen extending right to the handset’s edges, giving the phone a borderless look. This is similar to reports from MacRumors that the new iPhone 6 will be bezel-free and indicates a move toward a sleeker, more minimalist design trend in the smartphone arena.
The leaked images also show that physical buttons from the front of the phone have been removed, replaced by the handset’s speakers that now reside at the bottom edge of the device. There also appear to be twin camera sensors on both the front and rear cameras, which would dramatically enhance picture quality. The leaked pictures seem to indicate that the on-screen home buttons will float on top of the main screen, as the phone’s wallpaper clearly extends all the way down to the speaker grille at its bottom edge.
While the pictures themselves don’t give details about what’s under the hood of the new model, GottaBeMobile reports that other Internet leaks about the phone have provided more details regarding specs — there’s not much left to discover about the HTC M8 except its official name. The phone will include Android KitKat 4.4.2, a new version of the Sense User Interface, a quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, improved battery life, a microSD slot and a dual camera, which the leaked photos seem to confirm.
HTC M8 Invitations Coming Soon
HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang and CFO Chialin Chang have confirmed that invitations for the unveiling of HTC’s new flagship phone will be sent out in a few weeks. This is the first official confirmation of rumors about a March release date, reports AndroidAuthority. The site also said that HTC is planning a “very aggressive” marketing campaign for its new flagship phone, despite the company’s intentions to shift focus more toward the mid-tier smartphone market in 2014. Regarding contract manufacturing, Wang very clearly stated that “we’re not even considering that.”
