Details about LG’s upcoming smartwatch have leaked a week ahead of the IFA electronics show, where the company planned to formally announce the new wearable device. The watch, which will hit shelves just months after LG’s G Watch, is a smaller device with a round face and a cleaner, more proper finish, Engadget reports. While no specifics have been released about the wearable, LG did post a teaser trailer to its YouTube page.
A G Watch Upgrade
From the video alone, it’s clear that the watch face will be changeable, but that’s about it. The new watch should have the same or better capabilities and components as LG’s G Watch, which is likely larger and bulkier than this upcoming timepiece. The G Watch, which sells for $229, has a 1.2 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, a 1.5-inch square display, and 4 GB of onboard storage.
Many tech critics, including those at TechRadar, have knocked the G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live because of their cumbersome design and lack of software capabilities. While the latter will get better over time, it’s clear that smartwatch makers need to work overtime to improve the design and size of their wearables fast. Watches are, after all, jewelry.
Who Will Be Number One?
Samsung, LG, and Motorola are all vying to create the first successful smartwatch, and Apple is rumored to be releasing its own iWatch at IFA, according to MacRumors. Motorola still hasn’t released its Moto 360, but the company is expected to provide more information about it during IFA as well. Though, between the watch’s appearance at Google I/O and a recent Best Buy leak, people already know quite a bit about the device.
