Alcatel Onetouch unveiled its Hero 2 line of devices at last week’s IFA 2014. The new line will include tablets, smartwatches, and a brand new phablet-style smartphone dubbed the Alcatel OneTouch Hero 2.
Specs and Features
The Hero 2 phablet features a full 6-inch HD display and companion stylus, according to PC Magazine. “It’s a 1080p IPS display that looks nice in person, though nothing really stands out about it. The phone is reasonably thin for its size, measuring just 0.31 inches thick, but it’s hefty at 6.17 ounces,” the magazine reports.
Alcatel OneTouch has opted for a 13.1 megapixel camera on the back face, while the front-facing camera is 5 megapixel. The device will ship with Android 4.4.2 KitKat installed and will pull power from a 310mAh battery. The Hero 2 phablet is powered by a 2 GHz octa-core (eight processing cores) MediaTek processor. The device will make use of 2 GB of RAM. Internal storage is about average at 16 GB, with the ability to expand that capacity to 32 GB using a MicroSD card in the included card slot.
While the hardware is not exactly cutting edge, the Alcatel OneTouch is a nice value-based alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Additionally, the company is pushing out some unique accessories to accompany the Hero 2 phablet, including MagicFlip covers that come in a variety of styles and functions. The MagicFlip DJ case will add audio track mixing options for music, and the MagicFlip LED case will show illuminated information such as caller info, notifications, and time.
The phablet is available for purchase in Europe for €350. It is doubtful that this device will make it to the United States, but no official word has been given thus far.
