The buzz around the HTC Nexus 9 has the Android-enthusiast rumor mill feverishly busy with several alluring speculations. The Twitter-based leak experts @upleaks may have finally provided the first honest glimpse of the new Google tablet.
Legitimacy withstanding, according to TechnoBuffalo, the leaked image reveals quite a bit. “As you can see, the device clearly displays Google’s Nexus logo along its spine, while a smaller HTC logo sits near the bottom.” The image also shows a micro-USB port at the base of the device, “a camera with what looks like LED flash in the top-left corner,” and a headphone located on the top.
Specs and Speculation
While it’s uncertain that this is indeed the Nexus 9, concrete specifications are also a mystery. Reports detailed in GSMArena suggest the device will make use of Nvidia’s powerful 192-core Tegra K1 processor. This particular system-on-a-chip includes a quad-core 2.5 GHz Cortex A-15 CPU, with an ULP GeForce Kepler chip as the graphics processing unit (GPU). The tablet will reportedly ship in either 16 GB and 32 GB internal storage variants with 2 GB of RAM. While an official price point has not been announced, GSMArena estimates it will have an upper-middle-range price tag of around $400.
The spec sheet on GSMArena also shows an 8-megapixel rear camera, as mentioned by TechnoBuffalo above, which will feature optical image stabilization. Aesthetically speaking, the tablet will feature an 8.9-inch IPS LCD display pushing a 1440 by 2048 resolution. The Nexus 9 may also incorporate a zero-gap construction—similar to that found on the original HTC One—and feature tapered edges.
More Nexus Devices Coming
According to TechnoBuffalo, Google is set to reveal a Motorola-designed Nexus 6 smartphone in addition to the HTC Nexus 9 tablet sometime in October. It is unclear if these announcements will be included in a full press event or in a press release issued to media.
