With iOS7 and OS X 10.9 Mavericks grabbing most of the spotlight at WWDC yesterday, Apple still wowed the public with their newest desktop. The all new Mac Pro was offered as a sneak peek for the crowd yesterday as it was unveiled by Apple’s senior vice president Peter Schiller on stage. This top of the line computer from Apple is said to have ten times the performance of its predecessors while only measuring about 10-inches tall. Unlike the boxy Mac Pro designs of the past, the new all black cylindrical chassis brings a modern and minimal look to the desktop. Under the hood the big power upgrade comes via the Intel Xeon E5 processor that supports up to 12-cores. Also on board are the dual AMD FirePro GPUs, six Thunderbolt 2 ports, PCIe-based flash storage, and ECC memory. This new desktop is highly geared towards the pro user as the new Mac Pro will support 4K video editing on up to 3 ultra-HD screens. Apple did not announce an exact ship date, stating that the new Mac Pro will ship later this year. Pricing for the new model was also left up in the air. One thing they did reveal is that the new Mac Pro will be assembled right here in the United States. In closing, Schiller did make one bold statement to the public regarding Apple and the new Mac Pro…”Can’t innovate any more, my ass” and the crowd went ballistic. Expect a full hands-on review of the Mac Pro as soon as it becomes available.
